British rolling stock firm Porterbrook has secured a top score of 100/100 and been named as the Transport Sector Leader in the annual GRESB assessment - an organization that produces internationally recognized benchmarks to track environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance.

The result reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to sustainability. Key initiatives include the development of the UK’s first hydrogen-powered train HydroFLEX, and the launch into passenger service of the battery-diesel hybrid vehicle HybridFLEX which significantly cuts CO2 emissions, saves fuel, and reduces noise and air pollution.

Each year, GRESB assesses and benchmarks the ESG performance of assets worldwide, providing clarity and insights for financial markets on complex sustainability topics. Porterbrook came first in its peer group in the benchmark and for the fourth year in a row scored a five-star rating.

Porterbrook CEO Mary Grant said, “To score 100% and be recognized as the Transport Sector Leader in the annual GRESB benchmark is a great achievement for Porterbrook. It’s an endorsement of the hard work and dedication of our team to support the railway’s journey toward net zero.

“Our shareholders, customers and industry stakeholders place high importance on sustainability, and while we are proud of what has been achieved so far, we remain focused on further improving our ESG performance across the business going forward," Grant added.

Sebastien Roussotte, CEO of GRESB, said: “GRESB Sector Leaders are the top-performing organizations leading the way to a net-zero future and pulling the industry forward. We applaud this year’s Sector Leaders for their commitment, leadership, and dedication to ESG and sustainability.”
