The agreement signed in Bucharest is the second contract concluded between PESA and ARF, the Romanian Railway Reform Agency.

The signing ceremony was attended by the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of Romania, Sorin-Mihai Grindeanu, and the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland in Bucharest, Paweł Soloch.

The signed contract assumes the delivery of 62 electric multiple units for three regions: Bucharest, Iasi, and Cluj.

“Our trams carry the inhabitants of Cluj, Iasi, and Craiova. Now, thanks to modern, comfortable trains, we will connect the inhabitants of these cities, enabling them to travel in intercity and regional traffic. We are proud that our modern, innovative, and comfortable vehicles will contribute to the development of Romanian rail transport. Pesa has been present in Romania for years and we want to increase this presence - hence the plans to establish PESA Romania and cooperation with local partners in creating service centres in Romania.” - said Krzysztof Zdziarski, President of Pesa.

"The contract signed today for the supply of Pesa electric multiple units, and the contracts concluded earlier, will provide passengers  of Romanian Railways with comfortable and safe travel conditions. Now we just must wait for the first vehicles to be delivered.” - emphasised Sorin-Mihai Grindeanu, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of Romania.

- “I am convinced that thanks to this agreement we will provide excellent transport capabilities on ten regional lines. This means not only measurable economic benefits, but above all social benefits - we increase the level of mobility of our residents, and this can only be achieved by increasing the number of vehicles and their high quality." – added Stefan Adrian Roseanu, President of ARF.

The Regio vehicles that PESA will produce for the Romanian Railways are 3-unit electric multiple units built on separate bogies, reaching speeds of up to 160 km/h, with 224 seats, adapted for the needs of disabled people, powered by the AC 25kV traction network and equipped with a Romanian PZB 90 safety system and the latest ETCS.

In December, PESA signed a contract with ARF for the delivery of 20 (+9 optional) Inter-Regio class vehicles. Under both contracts, the Bydgoszcz manufacturer will also provide vehicle maintenance services to ARF for 15 years, and for this purpose, PESA, together with the state-owned CFR Calatori Railways, will establish local service centres. In this respect, PESA has already signed preliminary agreements with the state-owned companies CFR Calatori and CFR SA.

“We want to consistently increase our presence in Romania. We will soon open our office in Bucharest, and we are also starting the process of preparing for the launch of service centres. We want to create them based on cooperation with local partners - so we have a lot of work ahead of us," - added Hanna Wiśniewska Sirbu, PESA representative in Romania.

So far, PESA has delivered trams to the Romanian market between 2012 and 2023. There are already 37 of them in total, in Cluj, Iasi and Craiova. As part of the Pesa 2030+ strategy, the company is consistently expanding its presence on foreign markets. Currently, it produces trams for Tallinn and vehicles for CD and Regio Jet in the Czech Republic and railways in Ghana, and exports have accounted for more than half of PESA's production in recent years.
